Dr. Praveen Chakravarthy, a native of Andhra Pradesh, India, is a distinguished social worker and humanitarian whose tireless efforts have brought hope and tangible improvements to countless lives across India.
Born into a family of educators, Praveen was deeply influenced by his parents, both of whom were dedicated teachers. His early exposure to the struggles of his peers who faced financial barriers to education instilled in him a profound sense of empathy and a commitment to social service.
Inspired by his grandfather and father, who both ran a non-profit organization, Praveen chose to continue their legacy of service. His formal education includes a B.Sc, B.Th, and M.Th, which equipped him with the knowledge and skills to address complex social issues. His journey as a social worker began with his travels across tribal and remote areas in India, where he witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by marginalized communities.

American philosopher and psychologist, John Dewey had said- "Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself." A report in 2014 from UNESCO had shook the nation when it was revealed that 90 percent of children from poor families remain illiterate despite completing four years of school education.
A governmental report in March 2024 revealed that reservoirs have hit their lowest levels in the last five years. As the water crisis deepens in southern India, an urgent need to address this issue has arisen. Several NGOs and independent social workers had reiterated the issue earlier but to no avail.
Even after 77 years of independence, India struggles with the phenomenon of caste discrimination. A study conducted by Oxfam suggests that 20 percent of respondents in scheduled castes reported suffering discrimination in hospitals or by health-care professionals.
India, a country with a population of about 1.4 billion people, one of the world's fastest growing economies still struggles with inadequate health infrastructure. As per the National Health Profile, the country only has an average of 0.9 beds per 1000 people, and out of that only 30 percent are available to the rural population.
In 2023, India had ranked 111th out of 125 countries in the World Hunger Index and had the highest child wasting rate of 18.7% that indicates serious levels of undernourishment. According to Feeding India, India still ranks third globally when it comes to child malnutrition.
India ranked at 126 in the Global Happiness Index in 2023. People were generally found to be unhappy and stressed with social stigmas prevailing in the country and lack of opportunities. Mental Health studies have also revealed that the environment and things happening around you can impact your mental health directly.
India has emerged as the fifth largest growing economy in the world. Slowly and gradually moving towards being a possible superpower, the country still faces a lot of challenges which have been an obstacle in its path of development. Issues like illiteracy, caste discrimination, child labour and exploitation, water and hunger crisis have been pose threat to India's future ahead.
Philosopher Matshona Dhliwayo had once said- "When people try to pull you down, remember, they have to look up to do so." Following a similar path, a social worker from southern India's Andhra Pradesh has beaten all the odds to serve the people.
